SAHIM Platform
A discussion and management hub for university students, built by a small team under the SAHIM-Platform organisation — my largest single body of work anywhere.
I led the backend: Google OAuth with refresh-token rotation, threads with nested comments, voting and bookmarks, full-text search with Arabic support, rate limiting and role-based access — and the reviews, since every pull request into the API came through me. On the Next.js client, infinite scroll and the admin pages.
SAHIM (Student Academic Hub for Integrated Management) started as a Software Engineering course project: categorized discussion forums, user profiles, role-based administration and admin moderation tools, containerized with Docker for deployment.
What I built
Backend
- Co-designed the core backend architecture and database schema in collaboration with a teammate.
- Implemented Google OAuth for user authentication and integrated it with the platform’s login and signup flows.
- Added secure refresh-token rotation to the JWT-based authentication system.
- Built the core forum systems: threads, nested comments, voting and bookmarking.
- Developed full-text search with Arabic language support.
- Implemented global rate limiting and role-based access control.
- Built administrative workflows for student verification and role management, including re-approval logic and super-admin restrictions.
- Reviewed, merged and maintained backend pull requests to keep code quality consistent.
Frontend
- Integrated Google login and signup flows with the backend authentication system.
- Implemented infinite scrolling for discussion threads.
- Built role-protected pages and admin interfaces.
- Connected the frontend to backend APIs for threads, comments, categories, search and user profile management.
